Used in all types of reciprocating motion applications. Included are rod and piston seals in hydraulic and pneumatic cylinders, jacks, press rams and seals on plungers and pistons in reciprocating pumps. They are also suited for certain slow rotary applications such as valve stems, and are available in a large selection of materials to cover most applications. The selection of materials may be generally classified into two categories: Homogeneous Elastomers and PTFE.

Homogeneous elastomers: These can be used to handle a range of applications from sub zero to elevated temperatures. The characteristic of the elastomer itself provides a seal that is sensitive to low pressure.

PTFE: Chemically inert, it provides a solution to difficult and extreme chemical and temperature applications.
