In the spirit of giving this holiday season, the Zatkoff Seals & Packings team in Cleveland partnered with one of our longest-standing supply partners, Parker Hannifin, to make hundreds of children's Christmas with their Bikes for Kids program. Our combined efforts donated 362 bikes to Toys for Tots, who distributed them to families in need.
What is Bikes for Kids?
Bike rides create special memories for kids, from rides with friends and family to the freedom to go wherever you want, whenever you want. From the park, pool, school, or work, they provide a fun means to get around independently. Unfortunately, bicycles are often very expensive and not every family is able to afford them for their children.
Parker Hannafin has been participating in the Bikes for Kids program for 13 years, donating bikes from its Cleveland headquarters and several of its other locations to disadvantaged children in northeast Ohio. Since the beginning of the program, 11,000 bikes have been built across all Parker locations — 4,300 from the corporate office alone.
How Does it Work?
The program involves purchasing unassembled bicycles in bulk from Huffy at a discount, using the financial donations from Parker and its partners, including Zatkoff Seals & Packings. Parker then hosts an assembly party in December, gathering volunteers to put the bikes together.
After assembly, another event is held, where a Toys for Tots representative, along with several active duty Marines, visit Parker to acknowledge the donation. Finally, FedEx donates trucks and drivers to pick up the bicycles and transport them to the Toys for Tots facility for distribution across northeast Ohio.
While Parker leads this initiative, various organizations join year to year. We were proud to donate and have members of our Cleveland team represent Zatkoff by helping with this year's build.
